In the Bible, the number of wings that angels have depend on the type of angel. A cherub angel (plural-cherubim) have four wings: “In appearance their form was human, but each of them had four faces and four wings.” (Ezekiel 1:5-6). “Each of the cherubim had four faces: One face was that of a cherub, the second the face of a human being, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.” “They each had two wings spreading out upward, each wing touching that of the creature on either side; and each had two other wings covering its body.” (Ezekiel 1:11). This description may differ if you believe that cherubim angels and “living creatures” in Revelation are the same type of angels. In Revelation, this “living creature” angel is described the same as a cherub in Ezekiel, but has six wings, not four wings. (Revelation 4:8).
A Seraph (plural-Seraphim), on the other hand, has six wings. “Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. : (Isaiah 6:2). The bodies of cherubim and seraphim are different also, which is discussed in another FAQ. When people picture angels, they usually picture the Seraphim.
