Rick’s comments:
1. “Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” What does this mean? Did the Spirit come? When?
After Jesus’s resurrection, which glorified him and proved his was God, he said– “Do not leave Jerusalem but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:4-5) In order for the Holy Spirit to be given to us, Jesus had to rise from the dead and leave us. The Spirit could not come unless people had something to believe in for salvation and that came with his resurrection.
2. Is Jesus just a Prophet?
The Muslims claim he is a prophet, but by his own statements, he is more than that. Here is just one example. “Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” (John 14:8-9)
3. “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? “Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem…” Did it? Where?
The Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem. “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”. (Micah 5:2). The Bible tells us this was fulfilled with Jesus being born in Bethlehem, though, he settled in Nazareth as a little boy. “So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.” (Luke 2:4-7 and Matthew 2:1). “…and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.” (Matthew 2:23).
4. Have you felt the Holy Spirit in your life?
I feel the Holy Spirit in different ways. I see the simple and more complex miracles in my life and I sometimes hear God’s Spirit through other people. Of course, reading the Bible is the best way. However, my relationship with God has shifted in recent times and I feel my responsibility to spread the Word.
