The Gospel of John 7:32-36 (Jesus tells of another person in God)

Here is the next section where Jesus tells the religous leaders that he is going back to the one who sent him, confusing those listening. (John 7:32-36)

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.

33 Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? 36 What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”

Questions for discussion:

  1. What did Jesus mean by the “One who sent me?” Does this add validity to the concept of the Trinity (three persons in one God)?
  2. What did Jesus mean by, “You will not find me…”
  3. Did you feel different when Jesus found you?

1. What did Jesus mean by the “One who sent me?” Does this add validity to the concept of the Trinity (three persons in one God)?

Here is one of many places where Jesus tells us that there is another person to God. Yet, we are not talking about two Gods (polytheism) because the Bible tells us there is ONE LORD (Deuteronomy 6:4). Also, Jesus states that he and the Father are One. “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me?” (John 14:8-21)

2. What did Jesus mean by, “You will not find me…”

Jesus will go back to Heaven, where he came from, and sit with the Father. “Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me. “(John 7:33)

3. Did you feel different when Jesus found you?

It was a continuous process for me as I learned to walk with him and do his work. To this day, I feel Jesus and my relationship is still growing.
