1. God loves everyone and gives them an opportunity for eternal life by accepting Yeshua and following the New Covenant by observing, doing, and acting upon the 10 Commandments as modified by Yeshua in the Gospels.
2. Yeshua is the light of the world and He came to save it
3. Acting upon our temptations does dull the light inside of us
ReplyHey Van,
Thanks for your insight! I like your 10 Commandments modified by the Gospels phrase. I agree with your temptation statement, too. I always look at they as creating noise, and we cannot hear God.
ReplyRick’s thoughts on John 3:16-22
1. The Koran states that Allah loves those who obey him. Does the God of the Bible only love those who obey him? Why or why not?
John 3:16 states that God so loved THE WORLD. This distinguishes what the Koran states about Allah’s love who only loves those who obey his commands. The God of the Bible loves everyone and desires for everyone to be saved. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:3-4) Using logical reasoning, if God did not love sinners, too, he wouldn’t have sent His Son to die for them (us).
2. What does the line: “Light has come into the world…” mean?
Regarding the “light” that Jesus spoke of, he is the light. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’” (John 8:12)
3. Do you have trouble showing the light of Jesus through your behavior? Does giving into temptation dull that light?
This is a major focus in my life–to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. If we act in contradiction to the Gospel, it discourages others from believing what we teach. Even if we think our behavior is secret, our mind is poisoned and it distorts our connection with God’s Holy Spirit. When we pray and ask God for guidance or help, we will hear “static” because our hearts are not into it. The purer our heart is, the louder we can hear God.
